…The Website

DKMcCUE.com was first started as a Geocities website way back in 1999. I started it as a place to store all of my writing that I had at the time, and a place for me to sound off on topics that interested me.

In 2002, I decided that I would be better served if I had my own actual website, so I registered this site. Since most of what I had was on Geocities, I decided to just use Yahoo’s web-hosting plan for my site. The original site design for dkmccue.com was atrocious! If you don’t believe it, just go to the Way Back machine at archive.org. You will see what kind of crap I showing then!

In 2003, I moved the site to a new host (1and1) and have remained with them ever since. But between the time I switched server providers and my own physical move to New York City, I didn’t do much with the website. I was doing somewhat regular updates, but I was doing it all by hand using Dreamweaver. I hated Dreamweaver, and I didn’t have the patience to learn it properly, so my site sort of lagged.

In late summer 2005, I discovered WordPress. The site had never been the same since!

Three years (and about 1000 posts) later, I did something that I thought at the time to be a nice thing to do, but got myself into a lot more trouble than I bargained for. I wrote a post in which I decided to censor myself and not spell out a certain 4-letter word that starts with F and ends with K. Instead, I place two asterisks in place of the other two letters.

Because of these two asterisks being together, my site was suddenly on Google’s list of bad sites, claiming I was going to infect anyone’s computer who came to my site. And because of the block, I could not even log into the site to make the fix that would take my site off the list.

The only thing I could do was go into my service provider account and erase everything related to my site. Then I had to leave the site empty for three months while Google fucked around and finally released my site.

So, for the past two years, the site has been slowly coming back online. Have had some hiccups along the way, but one day I hope to have the site back up to it’s former glory.
