My heart and prayers go out to all of the families in Australia who have lost loved ones in the horrendous fires that have taken place there in the last week.
These fires have been devastating, pure and simple, and nothing will ever remove the horror and tragedy from these people’s lives.
I have tried to NOT watch news footage of the fires, because every time I see photos or video of it, my heart just breaks and I begin tearing up.
But at this moment, I am actually crying. The tears are streaming down my cheeks because, as devastating as the fires were, there was a small glimmer of hope.
And her name is Sam.
Sam is a Koala, and if you are seeing my site then you have definitely seen the picture below of a volunteer firefighter named David Tree giving water to Sam, as it has become a huge hit on the internet.
Yes, this picture tugged the heart strings. But that’s not why I am crying. I am crying because of the article in which I grabbed this picture, and found the video below.
In the article, from The Daily Mail in the UK, Tree explains how Sam looked up at him as if to say she wanted to die. He explains how she reached up and placed a burnt paw into his hand, and let him give her the water.
Sam was rescued, and placed with a rescue center, where she met Bob, another burnt Koala, and the two of them have become fast friends, holding each other.
Watch the video below, and check out the full story at the Daily Mail here.
