So, I have been getting a security warning in Firefox when I open my website about a site that is being blocked based on my security preferences.
Well, stupid me thought it must have been one of the many links I had added to the links section. But, I couldn’t remember which links I added when.
So, I looked at my list of 40 links and decided there was no way I was going to go through each and every one of them one-at-a-time. So I erased them all, at the same time.
Then I checked my website, and the security warning was still there.
Damn!
So, maybe it’s one of the comments in a previous post that is being block?
Comments erased, still get the warning.
Double Damn!!
This means it must be a link within one of my posts. But I don’t want to go through each and every post to find it, and I don’t want to erase all of my posts, either. So, I decide the best way to find trhe post is just start from the beginning. So I click on the September 2008 archive link and I don’t get the warning. Hmm…
I then try each month, going up the list. I find the warning came up in April 2009. April only has 2 posts, neither of which have links in them. But, one of them, about Friday Night Lights on Hulu, did at one time have a link to the video in it before Hulu removed it. Maybe that was the one that was causing the issue.
So I open the post, look through it and nothing is coded as a link of any kind.
Well, that’s kind of weird, right? Could it possibly the other post that never had any links in it?
So I check, and sure enough, there is a piece of code within the post for some sort of web stats site, with the url code number in it. So, I remove the code, save the edited post, and refresh my site.
Same message.
Triple Damn!!!
I then went to May 2009 in the archives and found that I was getting the warning message there as well. So one of those posts had the damned code as well. It took me a little longer to find, but find it I did, and I erased that as well.
My site is free of this web stats crap. No more security warnings! And now I know what to look for the next time I start to get these warnings.
Now, to just rebuild my links so that they can be there again…
